A global pandemic is terrible news for the organizers of major gatherings and events. The live music industry is no exception. Governors and mayors around the country are trying to figure out when groups will be allowed to gather once again, and the outlook for venues that make their money from bringing in crowds is looking grim.
In Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti suggested last week in a call that events like concerts and sporting events might not be allowed for as long as a year. Acts like Post Malone, the Rolling Stones and Elton John will have to wait to perform for adoring fans.
To try and recreate some of the live magic, some artists have moved onto social media, sharing their music on streams on platforms like Instagram and Twitch. But the question remains: When will they be able to return to performance venues? And what sort of industry will they find when they do?
Here’s our playlist of the live music we love.
