It’s been six months since George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police. Since then, the fight for racial justice has continued to sweep across the United States. For many, the current struggle for equity is reminiscent of a bygone era.
In his latest novel, The Emancipation of Evan Walls, author Jeffrey Blount takes readers back to the late sixties; a time full of turbulence and strife. His novel is set in the fictional town of Canaan, Virginia, and follows the eponymous Evan Walls.He’s an ambitious kid navigating white bullies and pressure from his own community.
We’ll talk to the award-winning author about his new novel, and what he thinks racial equity looks like today.
