Assange's Lawyers Prep For Indictment; Markets 'Defy' Fed

Good morning.

As we've already reported, there's much talk today not only about the tax deal that President Obama and Congressional Republicans reached earlier this week -- but also about his hope ( as he told Morning Edition's Steve Inskeep) that the tax system can be simplified.

Also already happening today: the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo. Chinese democracy activist Liu Xiaobo, the honoree, will be represented by an empty chair. He's been jailed by Chinese authorities.

As for other stories making headlines, they include:

-- ABC News: "Assange Lawyers Prepare for U.S. Spying Indictment."

-- The Wall Street Journal: "Markets Defy Fed's Bond-Buying Push."

-- Roll Call: "Profanity, Anger Spill Over In House Democratic Caucus Meeting."

-- The New York Times: " E.P.A. Delays Tougher Rules On Emissions."

-- BBC News: "Student Fees Protest: Questions On Police Handling."
