We're still more than a week away from the Dec. 21 official start of winter, but don't tell that to folks around the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast, where snow's been piling up and this weekend looks to be pretty rough.
"snow, ice (and) travel disruptions" lie ahead over the next couple days for the same parts of the nation:
"Upper-level energy sweeping out of the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains will carve out an energetic dip in the jet stream over the East. Fresh, cold Arctic air is poised to nosedive into the Central and East, as low pressure spins up in the Upper Mississippi Valley, heading toward the Great Lakes. Finally, a second area of low pressure may form near the East Coast and track northward."
