Loughner Case Will Be Heard By California Judge

NPR has confirmed that a judge from California will preside over the federal trial of Jared Loughner.

The  Arizona Republic reports:

Judge Larry A. Burns of the Southern District of California was named to oversee the Loughner case by Judge Alex Kozinski, chief judge of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Richard Weare, Clerk of the U.S. District Court in Phoenix, confirmed.

It was not immediately clear whether the case's assignment to a California judge would move it out of Arizona. No change of venue has yet been ordered in Loughner's case.

The AP reports that all federal judges in Arizona have recused themselves from the case.

In an order issued today, U.S. District Judge Roslyn Silver says that the impartiality of the Arizona judges could be affected by the fact that U.S. District Judge John Roll was killed when, police say, Jared Loughner went on a shooting rampage outside an Arizona supermarket.
