The death toll from Hurricane Irene and its aftermath continues to rise, as we reported earlier. There are now 40 confirmed deaths.

We've also already posted on the latest news from Libya, where ousted leader Moammar Gadhafi remains on the run and leaders of the transitional government are trying to convince his loyalists to lay down their weapons.
