Earl Scruggs

When Scruggs put out albums in the early '70s that featured some of the stars from rock 'n' roll playing country and bluegrass songs, it helped open up a new musical world to many in the younger generation.

Bluegrass legend and banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs has died at the age of 88.

The iconic banjo player, who played with Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt, developed a picking technique which defined the sound of bluegrass music. His "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" won two Grammy awards and made the banjo bluegrass' star instrument.
