Singer-songwriter Lloyd Cole grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. With his band, The Commotions, he made an album now heralded as a classic of the U.K. post-punk era, 1984's Rattlesnakes.

Cole subsequently moved to the U.S., and has released a steady stream of records since the 1980s. To release his latest album, Broken Record, Cole reached out to his fans and funded the record entirely through pre-sales.

Broken Record finds Cole in fine form, showcasing the wry, witty lyrics and clean, Anglo-Americana sound that made Cole's music a trusted staple through the years. In this edition of World Cafe, Cole and his band, The Small Ensemble, perform a wide-ranging set and discuss the ups and downs of more than two decades in music.
