President Obama is in Afghanistan meeting with President Hamid Karzai. Additionally, Mr. Obama signed an agreement that will outline the role of the United States in Afghanistan after the 2014 departure of the military.
The New York Times characterizes the visit as both a move to affirm support of the Afghan government and "a new opportunity to make an election-year case that he has wound down two expensive and now unpopular wars, here and in Iraq".
