Reminder - Interstate 70 Closed Tuesday for Boulder Removal

Starting at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Interstate70 between Silverthorne and Empire will be closed to all east and westbound traffic for boulder removal.

Officials at the Colorado Department of Transportation started putting the word out on the closures last week.  Even though the area got some snow over the weekend, crews will still be out removing a cluster of boulders to ensure they don’t end up falling on the roadway.  As a result, commuters passing through before 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 pm shouldn’t be affected, but the rest of the day a longer detour will need to be taken.

“You can travel Highway 40 over Berthoud Pass and back down to State Highway 9 or take U.S. 285 to State Highway 9 and come back through Silverthorne as well,” says C-DOT Spokeswoman Stacey Stegman.

Crews will be blasting about 40 boulders into smaller pieces and removing them.  If the work is not done by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, I-70 will be closed Wednesday as well.
