Rex Tillerson will no longer serve as the U.S. secretary of state. President Trump reportedly asked Tillerson to step down. And the president confirmed Tillerson’s replacement this morning on Twitter.
Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!

Tillerson sometimes found himself at odds with the president over foreign policy. Rumors of his impending departure have swirled around Washington for months. Tillerson is the latest and highest-profile official to leave the administration, which has seen significant turnover in the last year.
The swap at the head of the State Department comes amid increasing scrutiny on Russia over meddling in the 2016 election and impending talks between President Trump and North Korean leadership.
