Fort Collins City Council to Consider New Rules on Dispensaries

Grace Hood

During tonight’s Fort Collins City Council meeting members will begin discussing rules to reinstate medical marijuana dispensaries in town.

Council members will discuss everything from licensing of the businesses to where they can be located and how they should operate.

Voter approval of Question 301 in November means 22 dispensaries that were shut down earlier this year can reopen. On top of that for every 500 medical marijuana patients in Fort Collins one new center could open, according to the ballot language.

The changes would reverse a 2011 ordinance passed by voters that banned medical marijuana dispensaries in Fort Collins. The about face is attributed to the larger turnout, and the number of younger voters who weighed in during this year’s presidential election.
