Susan Tedeschi And Derek Trucks: A Match Made In Blues Heaven

The Tedeschi Trucks Band, started by husband and wife Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, contains two top guitarists - one of which who is also a very fine female vocalist. They have two very good studio albums, Revelator and Made Up Mind, plus one live album, Everybody's Talkin'. They also are a very popular live act well worth checking out if you get the chance.

Susan Tedeschi was born and raised in Massachusetts. At a very early age she discovered people like Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin' Hopkins from her father's record collection. Something of a child prodigy, she worked on Broadway at age 6 as an understudy. She has been in bands since age 13 including her first all originals band at 18.

Tedeschi obtained a bachelor's degree in composition and performance from Berklee of Boston, one of the top music schools in America. While getting her degree she started singing Blues in local Boston clubs. Soon her bands were always Blues bands. Tedeschi 's vocal influences are Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin. Her guitar influences are Buddy Guy, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Freddie King.

The road to the Tedeschi Trucks band started in 1999, when Susan Tedeschi opened for The Allman Brothers Band during their summer tour. It was there she met the band's new guitarist Derek Trucks. They were later married in 2001.

Derek Trucks was born and raised in Florida. He bought a $5 guitar when he was 9 and turned out to be a child prodigy. By 13, he had played with Buddy Guy and soon after toured with Thunderhawk. By age 20, he had played with artists such as Bob Dylan, Joe Walsh and Stephen Stills.

At that same 20-years-old when was playing with those luminaries, Derek Trucks also often played with The Allman Brothers Band. He later became a formal member in 1999 and it was soon after that he met Susan Tedeschi. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have two children and I can't wait to hear how they turn out if they choose to be musicians.
