Officials say there will be no Fourth of July fireworks over Aspen Mountain this summer due to concerns about wildfires.

The Aspen Times reports Aspen Chamber Resort Association President Debbie Braun said Tuesday that the association instead will opt for a drone show, which was the plan last year before inclement weather nixed the show.

Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo says the announcement is "great" news. He was considering a ban on all fireworks from May 1 to Nov. 1.

DiSalvo says fireworks should not be fired off at all during summer in the county. He proposed a ban last month to the Pitkin County commissioners, who have scheduled a work session for May 7 to discuss the topic.
