Frisco Cancels 4th Of July Fireworks Display
A Colorado town has cancelled plans for its annual Fourth of July fireworks display due to safety and other concerns.
The Summit Daily reported Monday that the town of Frisco announced Monday it will not hold its annual Independence Day fireworks this summer.
Officials in the town about 72 miles west of Denver say cancellation of the explosives display is an attempt to increase public safety and mitigate wildfire risks while avoiding difficulties associated with traffic, parking and crowd management.
Mayor Gary Wilkinson says the town council has opted to "start new traditions" respecting community and environmental health and safety.
The decision comes approximately two months after the town of Breckenridge about 10 miles to the south cancelled its holiday fireworks over wildfire concerns.
