Today on Colorado Edition: It’s primary election day here in Colorado! As we wait for results to come in across Colorado, we’re offering up a short podcast that explains what you need to know about Super Tuesday, from how ballots are counted to how delegates are allocated. We also explore how Colorado got back to holding a primary for the presidential race, after years of the caucus system.

What To Expect From The Primary & How It Might Affect The Presidential Race

To start the show off, we wanted to look at why Colorado went back to a primary for the presidential race, after years of caucusing. Turns out, KUNC’s Scott Franz looked into that question already. He brings us more about what to expect out of the primary and how it might affect the presidential race.

State Director Of Elections On Why Colorado Is A Part Of Super Tuesday

So now that we know why Colorado is back to using the primary again, what does it mean to be a part of Super Tuesday? To learn more, we spoke with Judd Choate, director of elections at the Colorado Department of State.

How Delegates Are Allocated By The Democratic And Republican Parties

When the dust settles, Colorado will have allocated a total of 104 delegates. 37 for the Republican Party, and 67 for the Democrats. To learn about how each party assigns those delegates, we spoke to Don Ytterberg, senior adviser to the Colorado Republican Party, and Halisi Vinson, executive director of the Colorado Democratic Party.
