New Bus Route Connecting Greeley, Fort Collins Launches Today. And It’s Free To Try.

A Poudre Express bus pulls up to a stop along its new route between Fort Collins, Greeley and Windsor.

Drivers tired of navigating traffic across Northern Colorado finally have a new option. A first-of-its-kind public bus route opens its doors to riders today, connecting Fort Collins, Greeley and Windsor.

The Poudre Express has stops at the University of Northern Colorado, along Windsor’s main street and in Colorado State University’s Transit Center, among others. The route is scheduled to take about an hour between Greeley and Fort Collins. It’s also free to ride for all of January.

Greeley-Evans Transit will manage the route. But it’s funded through an intergovernmental agreement between Fort Collins, Windsor, Greeley and other partners. Kristie Melendez, mayor of Windsor, says it’s designed specifically for commuters looking to escape traffic.

“They’re going to have WiFi on them. They’re state of the art,” she said. “So hopefully you can spend some of that time even getting some work done before you arrive at the office.”

Census Bureau data shows more people than ever are commuting between Larimer and Weld counties, which is why local transit agencies are looking for ways to get more cars off the road.

Once the free trial ends, the Poudre Express will charge $1.50 for a ride between Fort Collins and Greeley.

Poudre Express stops include:

  • Greeley-Evans Transit Center - 1st St. and 12th Avenue
  • University of Northern Colorado - 10th Avenue and 20th Street
  • West Greeley - 10th St. and 69th Ave.
  • East Windsor - Eastman Park Drive and CO 257
  • Central Windsor - 7th St. and Garden Dr.
  • West Windsor - Main St. and 15th St.
  • East Fort Collins - Harmony Transportation Center on the west side of I-25
  • Colorado State University Transit Center - near North Dr. on the CSU campus
