Colorado Edition: Let The Season Begin

Today on Colorado Edition: we’ll hear the reaction of an Aurora community member to the appointment of the city’s new police chief. Plus, how Colorado State University’s football team is handling the coronavirus. We’ll also learn about preparations for ski season in the Roaring Fork Valley, and get a preview of the Avalanche’s upcoming season.

Reactions To The Appointment Of Aurora’s New Police Chief

Earlier this week, we heard from Aurora’s new police chief, Vanessa Wilson. Today, we hear a community member’s reaction to that appointment. Our guest is Candice Bailey, a member of the new Aurora police community task force, and a co-founder of the Frontline Party for Revolutionary Action, who has helped organize Black Lives Matter protests in Aurora.

CSU Football Under Investigation

Colorado State University is investigating claims that several of the football team’s coaches had attempted to coerce players out of reporting possible COVID-19 symptoms. University president Joyce McConnell announced an investigation into the matter on Tuesday following a report in The Coloradoan which detailed allegations from ten players and staff members.

Miles Blumhardt, reporter on that story, and senior reporter with The Coloradoan, joined us to explain what’s going on.

How Do You Plan For A Ski Season That Might Not Happen?

A lot of companies in the Roaring Fork Valley depend on winter tourism. And they face a long list of unknowns between now and the season’s first snowfall.Aspen Public Radio’s Alex Hager talked with people in the ski industry who are trying to plan a season in the middle of a pandemic.

The Colorado Avalanche, our state’s hockey team, began their season this week. KUNC’s Desmond O’Boyle joined us to explain what the season will look like.
