A Colorado tax credit for low-income families could be turned off for the next two tax years, state economists announced last week.

House Bills 1221 and 1222 were killed in the Senate Finance Committee on Monday at their sponsors’ request in response to a veto threat from Gov. Jared Polis.

Many of the business tax breaks targeted under the plan were created or expanded by Republicans in Congress through their One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

GOP Rep. Jeff Hurd is part of a bipartisan quartet of lawmakers trying to extend a tax credit that helps people buy health insurance on the state marketplace.
