  • The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach produced the Tuareg guitar virtuoso's latest album and adds sonic heft rarely heard on African guitar recordings.
  • Police deputy Donna Rogan relived her high school years by going undercover as a transfer student in Carter County, Tenn. The Elizabethton Star reports "Operation Jump Street" led to 14 arrests.
  • Pat Summitt grew up on a rural farm and went on to a stellar career in basketball. As head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols, she won more games than any other basketball coach in NCAA history. Her new memoir, Sum It Up, records her memories even as she is losing them to Alzheimer's.
  • The U.S. military called its Oak Ridge, Tenn., facility "Site X." • Public cyber schools are popping up across the country, even for the youngest students. Many are run by the same for-profit company, which has made a big business of online education. But student test scores are falling short.
  • The Tennessee Titans have hired the former Saints defensive coordinator as a senior assistant coach. Last year, the league vacated the punishments of four players involved in "bountygate."
  • Tuba players at the University of Memphis, dressed in cute red vests and bow ties, are offering serenades. For about $25, they will play two songs while delivering chocolates and a card.
  • In the 1990s, Jim McCormick was teaching at the University of New Orleans and looking ahead to a future in academia. Today, he's one of the hottest lyricists in country music, having hit the top of the Billboard Country Music charts twice in the past six months.
  • A tornado touched ground near Adairsville, Ga., leaving major structural damage and at least one death. The severe weather will continue to move east, affecting areas from New York to Pensacola.
