More than one billion people are expected to participate in Earth Day events across the U.S. and in Colorado as well.
Fort Collins will have a couple of Earth Day events – Earth Day on East Mountain will be held Friday in conjunction with the Fort Collins Food Co-op and another event will be held on Saturday at Civic Center Park. Information on those can be found at www.sustainablelivingassociation.org
Denver’s 2011 earth day fair is also taking place Friday, and can be found here: http://denver.about.com/od/denverholidayspecials/tp/earthday.htm
“Colorado is so passionate about its diverse landscape and I think that most people who live here really do get out and enjoy our outdoor offerings and we want our children to be able to experience those same things,” says Colorado Tourism Office Spokeswoman Carly Grimes.
This year marks the 41st anniversary of Earth Day, which encourages individuals, businesses and other groups to work toward environmental protection and sustainability. This year, Earth Day organizers are calling for “one billion acts of green” – asking people to do something small but sustainable in their own lives to improve the planet's health. That could be anything from switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs to reducing the use of pesticides and other chemicals.
