Stay-at-home orders issued to stop the spread of coronavirus have touched every part of the American economy. Nearly 17 million Americans have filed for unemployment in the past three weeks. Some businesses are nearing a month without a customer.

We’re tapping into our 1A Across America network to learn more about how small businesses are handling this economic crisis. We’ll explore how some are managing to survive, and even thrive in some cases.

To do this, we’re focusing on one block in Denver, Colorado that’s home to 14 businesses. Each is coping in a different way.  We’ll also learn how businesses in Detroit, Michigan are finding ways to stay afloat.

1A Across America  is funded through a grant from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967 that is the steward of the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting.
