A new healthcare education program based at Greeley Central High School is set to open its doors for the start of the new school year.
Officials with Greeley-Evans District 6 will be on hand for a ribbon-cutting at the new Banner/NCMC Health Science Academy Wednesday morning.
Roger Fiedler, a spokesperson for District 6, says the program is geared toward students interested in becoming nurses, doctors and medical technicians.
"We are really focusing on creating career pathway learning opportunities for our high school students, where students can really begin to explore - in high school - what their future career interests might be," Fiedler says.
More than 130 students have enrolled for the 2012-2013 school year. The Health Science Academy will ramp up its course offerings over the next three years, and will ultimately serve up to 200 students from Greeley, Evans and nearby communities. Classes begin August 16.
