Colorado's Record Breaking Weather In 2012

Natural Resources Defense Council

Colorado experienced some extreme weather in 2012. Last year broke more than 114 weather records for heat, rain and snow.  

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, nationwide, 3,527 monthly weather records were exceeded by extreme weather events in 2012.

Colorado in 2012:

  • 43 large wildfires
  • 80 broken heat records in 33 counties
  • 22 broken precipitation records in 15 counties
  • 12 broken snow records in 8 counties

July 2012 was the hottest single month ever recorded in the lower 48 states. As a whole, 2012 was the warmest year ever recorded in the US, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s State of the Climate report.
