Known for the infectious "Somebody That I Used To Know" Gotye will be opening a North American tour right here in Colorado at Red Rocks. The show is Wednesday, August 22 at 7:30 with Missy Higgins and Jonti opening.

Gotye, or Wouter "Wally" De Backer to his parents, has been everywhere with that lead single from last summer's Making Mirrors. First gaining traction in Australia and New Zealand, "Somebody That I Used To Know" is a bone fide hit, currently charting at #1 on the Hot 100 and the Pop charts at Billboard.

Tickets go on sale June 8 at 10am and will be in the $38.50-$42.75 range for the experience. Details on presale access require liking Gotye on Facebook or signing up for the mailing list. Other notable stops include:

  • 08/22 – Morrison, CO @ Red Rocks Amphitheater
  • 09/25 – New York, NY @ Radio City Music Hall
  • 10/12 – Grand Prairie, TX @ Verizon Theatre
  • 10/13 – Austin, TX @ Austin City Limits

The concert on the 12th of October is notable as it is the only announced show that will feature Kimbra, the New Zealand singer that helped make "Somebody That I Used To Know" the hit that is was. That's sure to be the definitive performance of the song during the tour.
If you haven't heard the song, you've either been in a cave or have been under the deluge of parodies that litter the 'net. Like this one that popped up yesterday:

Or the Peyton Manning/Tim Tebow one making the rounds amongst the Bronco faithful:

Here's hoping that the Red Rock experience is nothing like those parodies.

I’m not a Colorado native (did you know that "I'm from Missouri" means "I'm skeptical of the matter and not easily convinced?") but I have lived here for most of my life and couldn't imagine leaving. After graduating from Colorado State University, I did what everyone wants to do; I moved to the mountains and skied, hiked, and hid from responsibility! Our listeners in the mountains may know me from my time in Steamboat Springs and Vail or as the voice of the Battle Mountain Huskies Hockey team in Vail.
