Felony Theft Arrest Warrant Issued for Former Larimer County GOP Chairman

Larimer County GOP

The Republican Party of Larimer County is evaluating its next steps after a felony theft arrest warrant on Tuesday was issued for its former leader. Ex Chairman Larry Carillo has been charged with one count of theft between $1,000 and $20,000. The money was allegedly used during 2009 and 2010 when the organization did not have a treasurer.

According to the Coloradoan, the county party faces an estimated $65,000 in fines for violating state campaign finance laws in 2010. Meantime, Treasurer Steve Miller estimates that the organization has about $3,000 in its coffers right now.

“We’ve requested waivers, or reductions. But the Secretary of State has also been waiting for the [Weld County] DA to file charges and see where that goes,” he said. “It’s a very long and uncomfortable process.”

The party is in the process of filing amended campaign finance reports with the Secretary of State.
