Residents Decide Mayor, City Council Candidates

Mayor Karen Weitkunat successfully won her bid for a second term last night. Weitkunat overwhelmingly beat out challenger Eric Sutherland with 70 percent of the vote.

In the race for Councilmember in District 1, Bob Overbeck came out on top of a race against three other candidates. Overbeck won almost 48 percent of the vote.

Aislinn Kottwitz’s District 3 seat was won by Gino Campana, who received more than 64 percent of votes from residents in the southeastern Fort Collins constituency.

And in the largest margin of the election, Ross Cunniff won 72 percent of the vote in the west central District 5.

Council members are elected for four years, and the mayor’s term is two years. The newly elected officials will be sworn in at the next city council meeting April 9.
