Leigh Paterson

KUNC
Colfax Avenue in Denver, before the city's Stay At Home Order lifted.

Today on Colorado Edition: we’ll talk with Colorado’s education commissioner about what schools may look like in the fall. Plus, we’ll learn about the work that violence interrupters are doing during a pandemic, and get the latest on mask restrictions in Fort Collins. Finally, we’ll hear from a local business about working during safer-at-home, and a recent college graduate about graduating in a time of social distancing.

Colorado Receives Federal Relief For School Districts

Earlier this week, Colorado received over $120 million in emergency federal relief for Colorado school districts through the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security, or CARES Act.  Colorado Education Commissioner Katy Anthes joined us with more on what this means in our state.

Violence Interrupters

As life has slowed down during the Coronavirus pandemic, gun violence continues to happen across the country, and outreach workers continue to try and stop it.  But even as social distancing restrictions ease in Denver, these workers continue to wrestle with the impacts of COVID-19. KUNC’s Leigh Paterson reports.

Fort Collins’ Mask Rules

Officials in Larimer County are planning to relax some of its guidelines around the wearing of face coverings, especially when it comes to businesses who don’t feel comfortable requiring them for clients. But it’s a different story in Fort Collins, which plans to keep its more stringent rules in place for now.

Jacy Marmaduke, who has reported on this for The Coloradoan, brought us the latest.

Business Reflects On Working While Safer-At-Home

Since the state transitioned into a safer-at-home order, we’ve been hearing from business owners and employees from around Colorado about how their work has changed.

Betsy Wheeler, chief people officer for Otter Products, based in Fort Collins, joined us to discuss what social distancing measures have meant for the company.

Local Graduate Reflects On Celebrating Milestone During Pandemic

Tabitha Jones graduated from the University of Northern Colorado last week. But, her graduation looked very different from those we usually see. Tabitha joined us to discuss the experience of graduating during a pandemic, and share some advice for other graduates.
