Here Are The Front Range Schools Offering Meals To Students Amid COVID-19 Closures

School districts from Fort Collins to the metro Denver area will continue offering meal services to food insecure families even while classes are postponed to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

KUNC asked several of the region’s largest school systems to share their plans. 

Districts are listed below in alphabetical order. We will update this list as more information becomes available.

Aurora Public Schools

The district plans to send communication about meal distribution plans this week. Check the district’s website for the most up-to-date information.

Boulder Valley School District

The district is instituting a food program beginning Tuesday, March 17. The district is hosting nine drive-through nourishment stations where families can pick up bags of several meals’ worth of food items and fresh produce.

Locations will be open Tuesday, March 17 and Thursday, March 19 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Boulder:

  • Columbine Elementary

  • Crestview Elementary
  • University Hill Elementary 

Broomfield:

  • Emerald Elementary

Lafayette:

  • Pioneer Elementary
  • Sanchez Elementary

Louisville:

  • Louisville Middle School 

Nederland:

  • Nederland High School 

Cherry Creek Schools

The district is providing free breakfast, lunch and a book for all students starting on Friday, March 20 through March 27. 

Drive-up and walk-up service will be available on weekdays at the following sites: 

  • Student Nutrition Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
  • Christ Community Church from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Holly Ridge Elementary from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Highline Elementary from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Glendale Sports YMCA from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Eastridge Elementary from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Ponderosa Elementary from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Meadow Point Elementary from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. 
  • Canyon Creek Elementary from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Independence Elementary from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. 
  • Sunrise Elementary from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

Greeley-Evans School District 6

The district is on spring break starting Monday, March 16. Staff are working on a contingency plan for the week of March 23 to make sure students have breakfast and lunch as needed. It will be an individual sack meal that will be given to students at various school sites. Communication about specific sites will be going out this week.

Denver Public Schools

Services start on Monday, March 16. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from 12 to 1 p.m. Vegetarian options will be available.

Poudre School District

During the closure, the Food Bank For Larimer County will distribute food from two locations:

  • 1301 Blue Spruce Dr., Fort Collins, CO
  • 2600 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, CO

Note: A district email sent to families on March 13 included an incorrect address. The food bank’s distribution center address (5706 Wright Dr. in Loveland) does not distribute food at this location.
St. Vrain Valley School District

Starting Monday, March 16, the district will open 11 food pickup sites where students, families and staff can receive lunch and breakfast food items.

The daily pickup window is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Timberline PK-8 
  • Northridge Elementary School 
  • Altona Middle School 
  • Sunset Middle School 
  • Soaring Heights PK-8 
  • Frederick High School 
  • Mead Middle School 
  • Lyons High School 
  • Hygiene Elementary School 
  • Niwot High School 
  • Learning Services Center

Meals will not be available during spring break. Services will resume on Monday, March 30 if school closures extend beyond break.
Thompson School District

The district is on spring break starting Monday, March 16. Beginning Monday, March 23, breakfast and lunch meals will be made available at select locations for students in need. Check the district’s website for more information.
