Two Colorado Boy Scouts of America councils are merging before a split with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Denver Post reports the Boy Scouts' Denver Area Council announced Wednesday it has merged with the Western Colorado Council in Grand Junction.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced on Thursday that it was reversing its controversial 2015 policy that classified people in same-sex marriages as "apostates." The church, widely known as the Mormon church, had also barred the children of such marriages from blessing or baptism until age 18.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came out in cautious support of medical marijuana last month but now says the legislature should decide how it’s legalized in Utah, not the voters in a citizen’s initiative this November.
