Galena Fire: 100% Contained, 1,348 Acres Burned

The Galena Fire is officially 100% contained. The Larimer Sheriff will hand off control and monitoring of the blaze to Poudre Fire.

The fire was reported at 11:46 a.m. Friday, March 15th. It quickly spread thanks to dry conditions and high winds. Conditions were more favorable on day 2 of the fire and evacuees were able to return to their homes. Weather since then has allowed fire officials to make headway against the fire.

Via a statement from the Larimer Sheriff:

The 1348 acre Galena Fire is now 100% contained. Higher humidity and decreased winds throughout the night and today helped firefighters with the fire. More favorable weather conditions have been forecast with less wind, higher humidity and a chance for moisture by the weekend.

60 firefighters continued mop-up operations today securing the last part of the hand lines.

No injuries were reported today. Four firefighters have been treated and released for minor injuries during the fire so far.

No structures were damaged in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  It has been determined that it was not caused by a campfire, controlled burn or prescribed burn that escaped.
