The hiring of seasonal jobs helped pushed down unemployment rates in more than 90% of the nation’s largest cities last month. But the numbers are somewhat mixed in Colorado.
According to the U.S. Labor Department many of the steepest declines are in tourist destinations where hotels and attractions add workers for the summer season. Even though the metro data is not seasonally adjusted to account for such trends – unemployment numbers edged downward in all of Colorado’s seven metro areas in a year over year comparison.
But when stacked up against last month’s non-seasonally adjusted national unemployment average of 8.7% - 4 Colorado cities emerge with higher rates of unemployment including Denver, Grand Junction, Greeley and Pueblo. Unemployment rates in Boulder, Colorado Springs and Ft. Collins are lower than the national average.
