Cooler Temps ‘Buys Time’ with Mountain Flooding

Creative Commons

Flooding continues to be a concern even as temperatures that have been in the upper 80s and 90s return to more seasonal highs.

Temperatures are expected to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler by week’s end which is good news for those living near streams and rivers already running at bank full or near flood stage.

“If we can control the melting we are essentially buying some time. But we are going to get some precipitation with that with that and that can also make some flood conditions worse,” says National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Fredin.

Showers are possible this week but not seen as a threat. Flood warnings are in effect for five western Colorado counties including Eagle, Jackson, Moffat, Mesa and Routt. Flood advisories have been posted in Larimer County and Weld County.
