Colorado Colleges Continue to Feel Budget Pinch

Creative Commons

State lawmakers cut funding for Colorado Colleges and Universities by more than $500 million for the next budget year and the pinch continues to impact tuition and operations.

The Board of Governors at Colorado State University voted this week to hike tuition by 20% for full time, in state students on the Ft. Collins campus. That means resident undergraduate students will pay an additional $1,000.00 annually. Tuition for non-resident undergraduates at CSU will go up by 3%.

On Monday Trustees at Colorado Mountain College announced plans on to cut $10 million from their operating budget because of decreasing property tax revenues and a 23% loss in state funding. CMC officials say the budget cut will be partially offset by an expected bump in enrollment and a small tuition increase.

In April the University of Colorado in Boulder announced a 9.3% tuition hike for next fall.
