As The Tour de France continues, Colorado is trying to put more of a spotlight on upcoming cycling events and opportunities.

Colorado is already known world-wide as a skiing destination, and for summer activities like hiking and river recreation.  Going forward, tourism officials are hoping to add cycling to that list.  To that end, the state is hosting the USA Pro Cycling Challenge starting August 22.

“It’s the return of professional cycling to Colorado, which was on hiatus for about 20 years,” says Colorado Tourism Office Spokeswoman Carly Grimes,  “Colorado has such a variety of cycling options, especially in the road biking realm.  We’re just excited to see pro cyclists come to Colorado and elevate the state’s reputation as a top cycling destination.”

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge will take riders from across the world across routes in 11 cities and towns in the state.  In addition to that, there will be numerous cycling events for all skill levels through September, including Tour de Fat in Fort Collins and the Leadville trail 100 mountain bike race.
