DIA Offers Online System for Tracking Air Traffic, Noise Complaints

A new online system allows Coloradans to track the movement of flights and air traffic patterns along the northern Front Range.

WebTrak Flight Tracking and Noise Information System allows the public to research data about flights in the region.

“It’ll track flights to and from Denver International Airport, Centennial Airport, the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, Front Range and Buckley Air Force Base,” says DIA Spokeswoman Jenny Schiavone.

This will help people understand how busy Colorado’s airspace actually is.

“We’re the 5th busiest airport in the U.S. and the 10th busiest airport in the world, so it helps when people can have a tool to recognize that and understand how important Denver’s air traffic is to the rest of the world,” adds Schiavone.

In addition to flight tracking, the system also simplifies the process of filing a noise complaint.  While DIA is located on a large parcel of land outside of the city core, many neighborhoods have popped up near it in recent years.

“DIA has always had a system in place where people who live in and around the area that our property sits on can call or e-mail or send a letter to our noise office to complain about noise traffic that might be an annoyance to them.  That’s been in place since we opened, this is just another options folks can use when they want to tell us how they feel about noise in the area,” says Schiavone.

The tracking system will allow for noise complaints to be matched with flight information – which will help in determining the sources of noise.  DIA joins Los Angeles International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma and London’s Heathrow in offering this web-tracking tool.
