An Overview Of Colorado School Reopening Plans

School districts across the state are working toward phased reopenings for the upcoming school year. Initial plans include hybrid and remote learning options until students can safely return to the classroom.

KUNC has compiled a list of Colorado school districts' evolving plans for the fall.

Aspen Schools
Semester start date: Tentatively after Labor Day (Sept. 7), with a decision expected by Aug. 17
Reopening plans: Focusing on remote learning.

Boulder Valley School District
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: BVSD will start Aug. 24 entirely online. There will be no buses.

Denver Public Schools
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: In-person learning possible after Oct. 16 if conditions improve. Full-time remote option. No remote early childhood courses.

Greeley Evans District 6
Semester start date: August 19 for kindergarten and August 17 for everyone else
Reopening plans: Masks will be required, parents can choose between in-person or full time online options.

District 27J (Brighton)
Semester start date: August 25
Reopening plans: In-person four days a week for K-5 and two days in-person / two days digital alternating cohorts for grades 6-12. Full-time virtual option available. Masks and social distancing in place.

Estes Park Schools
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: In-person learning with masks and social distancing. Bus capacity will be limited. Students will be in consistent cohorts. An all-remote option is available.

Poudre School District (Fort Collins)
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: 100% remote to start the year through at least the first quarter ending Oct. 16.

Thompson School District (Loveland)
Semester start date: August 31
Reopening plans: 100% remote to start the year through at least the first quarter ending Oct. 16.

University Reopening Plans

Universities have released their own guidelines for students to return to campus and take online classes based on Centers for Disease Control guidance. New regulations include measures to social distance, contact trace, and quarantine students in response to any cases of COVID-19.

University of Northern Colorado
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: 50% of courses are in-person or hybrid. Students will remain in class following Thanksgiving.

CU Boulder
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: Smaller classes with outdoor tents, using hotels for additional housing. Special PPE for performing and visual arts.

Colorado State University
Semester start date: August 24
Reopening plans: Primarily virtual or online, all classes will move online after fall break. Any in-person events must be evaluated for safety.
