eTown: The Civil Wars & Sarah Jarosz

Jim Hill
Joy Williams & John Paul White on stage at the 2011 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival.

How do you celebrate a meteoric rise to the top and a HUGE 2011? If you're the duo known as The Civil Wars, you head to the Boulder Theater to tape eTown and cover Micheal Jackson. Also in eTown this weekend, multi-instrumentalist Sarah Jarosz. Tune in Sat @ 3!

Just how big was 2011 for The Civil Wars? A debut album, sold out shows nationwide, internet fame, and numerous nominations: Duo Video of the Year (CMT), New/Emerging Artist of the Year & Duo/Group of the Year (AMA), and Vocal Duo of the Year (CMA). Not bad for a duo that got their introduction to the mainstream via "Poison and Wine" playing over the credits of an episode of Grey's Anatomy.

That fame would translate in Colorado as well, cumulating in appearances at both the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival and a taping of eTown at the Boulder Theater. As fortune would have it, that taping of eTown will be broadcast this Saturday at 3pm right here on KUNC.

Also joining The Civil Wars and Nick & Helen Forster is Sarah Jarosz, one of the most talked about young singer-musicians today (The New York Times calls her “one of acoustic music’s most promising young talents”). All this, plus intimate conversations with the musicians and an inspiring E-Chievement Award Winner from D.C. who’s doing great work around the world.

John Paul White and Joy Williams of The Civil Wars take the eTown stage to perform an interesting take on this old Michael Jackson classic - "Billy Jean."

Nick and Helen Forster join Sarah Jarosz, her bandmates and the eTones for this rendition of Sarah's song - "Run Away."

I’m not a Colorado native (did you know that "I'm from Missouri" means "I'm skeptical of the matter and not easily convinced?") but I have lived here for most of my life and couldn't imagine leaving. After graduating from Colorado State University, I did what everyone wants to do; I moved to the mountains and skied, hiked, and hid from responsibility! Our listeners in the mountains may know me from my time in Steamboat Springs and Vail or as the voice of the Battle Mountain Huskies Hockey team in Vail.
