There's nothing like having your name in lights

If you weren't in Boulder last night at the Fox for a show, then you missed a great one! KUNC Presents was on hand for Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit with The Band of Heathens.

The Band of Heathens opened the night and at one point provided the unfamiliar Boulder audience with a compliment. At a lull in the set a surprised concert goer exclaimed, "Wow, you guys are pretty good!" Which earned the sardonic response: "Thanks, you guys are an above average audience." The crowd was sparse to start and they missed out on a great set from the Austin Band. Listen to what they missed out on:

Band of Heathens "Shoulda Known Better" Live at KDHX 3/5/11 by KDHX

The evening's main attraction never disappoints. A rip-roaring cover of Neil Young's "Like A Hurricane" and a solo acoustic cover of "Angel From Montgomery". Crowd favorites like "Decoration Day" or "Goddamn Lonely Love", the poignant "Dress Blues" from Sirens of the Ditch, all the way to "Codeine" from Here We Rest.

Here are some scenes from the show:

I’m not a Colorado native (did you know that "I'm from Missouri" means "I'm skeptical of the matter and not easily convinced?") but I have lived here for most of my life and couldn't imagine leaving. After graduating from Colorado State University, I did what everyone wants to do; I moved to the mountains and skied, hiked, and hid from responsibility! Our listeners in the mountains may know me from my time in Steamboat Springs and Vail or as the voice of the Battle Mountain Huskies Hockey team in Vail.
