Robert Leja
Director of Community EngagementAs Director of Community Engagement for KUNC & The Colorado Sound, I look for ways to bring the programs and personalities you hear on the radio “out of the box” to engage and interact in live settings.
I’m also responsible for community partnerships and sponsorships for events and organizations across our listening area, as well as managing the corporate support team that works with the local businesses and institutions that support us through their underwriting.
I was a listener (and member) of KUNC long before I started working here. While working in commercial radio, my kids were frequently confused about where I worked, because I always had KUNC on when they were in my car.
I discovered public radio and NPR when I was a journalism student at Boston University and interning at WBUR. After graduating, I worked in record stores and was a freelance music writer before moving to Colorado in 1990. I worked in a variety of radio and print sales position before joining CRNC in 2005, and with the launch of The Colorado Sound, I now get to work for an organization that feeds both my news and musical curiosity.
I’ve served on the boards of Be Local Northern Colorado, Pioneer School for Expeditionary Learning, and the Tri-Media Film Festival.
My wife Heather and I live in the foothills above Boulder. When not working, you can usually find us at a concert or music festival, cycling around Colorado, or playing frisbee with our blue heeler Neko.
