Larimer Co GOP Hosting Caucus Information Sessions
Ahead of what promises to be a spirited election cycle next year, the Larimer County Republican Party is working to get the word out about how the caucus system works. They’ll hold two informational sessions this week.
Caucuses are neighborhood-level meetings that let voters help decide who ends up with their party’s nomination. But Jerry Patterson, Internal Vice Chairman with the Larimer County GOP, says many don’t really understand them, and don’t feel comfortable participating. He says the sessions are designed to answer questions…
“There are a lot of changes coming up in 2012," Patterson notes. "February vs. March; there’s the possibility that all the precinct numbers could change if we move into the 2nd (Congressional) District here in Larimer County.”
Following the lead of other states, Colorado Republicans will hold caucuses earlier than usual, February 7th – one day after Iowa’s.
Patterson says many Coloradans echo the nationwide frustration with government, and he hopes the sessions will help remind people that with the caucuses, they have a voice in the direction of the state and the country.
Thursday’s session takes place at 6 pm at Ridgeview Classical Schools’ Performing Arts Center in Ft. Collins.
A second session will be held Saturday, 12/03 at 10:00 a.m. at Estes Park High School.
