Polis Criticizes COGA, Calls For Industry To Withdraw Fracking Lawsuits

U.S. House of Representatives

Democratic Rep. Jared Polis asked the Colorado Oil and Gas Association (COGA) to withdraw lawsuits filed against Fort Collins and Lafayette, which recently passed restrictions on hydraulic fracturing.

In a video statement Polis called the lawsuits “un-American,” further adding “…when you don’t get your way, you don’t win friends by suing people.”

Voters in Boulder and Broomfield also approved measures that pause the practice of hydraulic fracturing. COGA has not indicated whether it will pursue legal action in those cities.

The oil and gas industry association is also engaged in legal action with Longmont, where voters in 2012 approved a ban on fracking.

Polis represents Colorado’s 2nd District, which encompasses all of the Front Range communities that have passed fracking moratoriums or bans.
