Colorado’s gun control debate is continuing to make national headlines – most recently because of remarks from one Democratic lawmaker about rape.

The comments of Representative Joe Salazar came during a debate on banning concealed carry weapons on college campuses. KUNC’s state capitol reporter Bente Birkeland spoke with fellow statehouse reporters about the political ramifications and what's driving the story.

Bente Birkeland has been reporting on state legislative issues for KUNC and Rocky Mountain Community Radio since 2006. Originally, from Minnesota, Bente likes to hike and ski in her spare time. She keeps track of state politics throughout the year but is especially busy during the annual legislative session from January through early May.
