Colorado Edition: Making Plans

Scott Franz/Capitol Coverage

Today on Colorado Edition: we’ll look at what’s ahead for Colorado’s presidential primary, and get the latest from Colorado’s state Capitol. Plus, the history of Nicodemus, and some last-minute Valentine’s Day ideas.

Colorado’s Presidential Primary

Ballots have been mailed out ahead of the presidential primary, which will be held on Super Tuesday, March 3.  Coloradans voted in 2016 to ditch the caucus system in favor of a primary for the presidential nomination – and to allow unaffiliated voters to participate. This shift is widely seen as giving Colorado more influence than before in choosing a president. But how much clout that translates to is up for debate.

Jacy Marmaduke, reporter with The Coloradoan, joined us with more.

Checking In On The State Capitol

It’s been a little over a month since the legislative session started up again at the state Capitol. We’ve covered a lot that short amount of time, so KUNC’s Scott Franzis here to give us an overview of what’s happened in that first month. He joined us from the Capitol.

The History Of Nicodemus

Often overlooked in our state’s history is the experiences of black Americans who moved to the West after the Civil War.

Today, we’re going to learn about one of the communities that was created during that movement: the town of Nicodemus in Kansas.

KUNC’s Stephanie Daniel went to Nicodemus to report on the town’s history for History Colorado’s podcastLost Highways.’ And she joined us to explain what she found.

Valentine’s Day

Friday is Valentine’s Day. And, in case you’re still looking for something beyond the usual dinner and flowers – you're in luck. Today we’re going to dive into some local events happening around our state to celebrate the holiday.

Denise Mickelsen, food editor at 5280 Magazine, joined us with ideas for how to celebrate the holiday.
