It took two years, one veto and the voices of survivors to get Colorado to enact new protections for rideshares.

Rideshare companies operating in Colorado will be required to investigate drivers after receiving complaints from riders — including about sexual assault, harassment and stalking — within seven business days or face penalties.

The new proposal would require companies to take more action around problem drivers.

The California-based company says it could not comply with House Bill 1291 and the measure would pose too big a legal risk. It has never pulled out of a state before.
