High Park Fire Displaces People, Animals

  • Grace Hood & Nathan Heffel reporting for KUNC News

A wildfire burning west of Fort Collins has now scorched more than 20,000 acres and damaged or destroyed at least 18 structures over the weekend. Hundreds of people and animals have been evacuated as the fire continues burns out of control.

KUNC’s Grace Hood and Nathan Heffel have two reports above on the evacuees of the High Park Fire.

As mentioned in our High Park Fire live blog from Sunday, here is the video from Grace's audio report from Cyndi Cecchinelli. It's her husband, Wade, who actually shot the video. Their cabin is on Old Flowers Rd. This is the footage he shot after abandoning the trailer he was loading at their cabin:

Editor's Note: The High Park Fire started on Saturday, June 9th. Winds and high temperatures helped the fire rapidly spread. The blaze has grown from an initial 8,000 acres by the end of Saturday to an estimated 20,000+ by the end of Sunday. Our day 1 updates are archived here, updates from Sunday, June 10th are archived here. Current updates for Monday, June 11th can be found at this post.
