Iran Bans Foreign Recipes From State TV

RENEE MONTAGNE, Host:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.

Hamburgers, pizza and other Western foods are popular in Iran. But Iranians who want to whip up those dishes or anything fancier won't be getting any cooking tips on TV. Over the weekend, Iran's broadcasting authority issued a ban on cooking shows that feature foreign cuisine. As part of a nationalistic campaign, TV stations will drop the demonstrations of cooking pesto and coq au vin and show only traditional Iranian recipes.
