Thousands of fans are still flocking to get a glimpse of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, as the riders make their way through the northern and central mountains. But traffic delays and other hazards are still a concern for this weekend.
People have been camping along various stages of the race since things began on Monday. They’ve been advised to take precautions because of traffic and for aggressive bears in the Aspen area. But there’s another potential risk this weekend. The race winds through Routt, Grand and Eagle Counties – just as archery season begins in Colorado.
“On Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th, the race will be coming through an area where hunters are going to be heading to their campsites,” says Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Mike Porras. “So we caution not only bike race fans, but we also caution hunters that they’re likely to experience some traffic delays.”
Stage 4 of the race finishes in downtown Steamboat on Friday. Cyclists begin stage 5 Saturday morning from there and make their way to Breckenridge, before finishing in Golden and Denver on Sunday.
