Rep. Gardner to Launch Wheat Tour in Colorado

Colorado Association of Wheat Growers

4th Congressional District Congressman Representative Cory Gardner hits the road tomorrow to meet with Colorado wheat producers. The Republican says the tour of seven counties along the eastern plains is an opportunity to discuss policy – as well as this year’s crop – which Gardner says benefited from recent spring rains.

“We’ve had some moisture over the past couple of months that’s brought the crop back up to better conditions than what it was over the winter,” he says. “[But] Southeastern Colorado is still struggling with their moisture, they need more coming in for their winter wheat crop.”

Earlier this month, agriculture officials said that about two-thirds of Colorado’s winter wheat crop was rated in fair to good condition. The Colorado Crop Progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture painted a much more positive picture compared to early April, when 57% of the crop was in very poor or poor condition.
