iPhone On Verizon Sells Out; Sets First-Day Sales Record

Lowell McAdam (left), Verizon's president, and Tim Cook, chief operating officer of Apple, announce that Verizon Wireless will carry Apple's iPhone 4. Verizon's iPhone has a new feature — a mobile hot spot.

In a press release, Verizon Wireless announced this morning that it was halting the pre-orders of iPhones for existing customers, 17 hours after it went on sale. Dan Mead, president and CEO of the company added:

"In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story."

Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White told PC Magazine that this bodes well for Verizon's 2011 prospects.

The iPhone will be available to the general public on Verizon on Feb. 10.
